About this site

This website contains a list of Commonly Mispronounced Words in English. You can use the words to further develop your English pronunciation and to expand your vocabulary.

The words are presented in alphabetically ordered lists. The lists can be selected by choosing letters from the alphabet at the top of the menu. You can listen to the way words in the lists are pronounced in (Standard) English and American by clicking the audio play button next to each word.

The words and the audio recordings on this website were provided by the Language Centre of the University of Tilburg. The recordings are copyright. The website was created by Eric Akkerman at the request of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU), where it is used in the online course MOOC English Pronunciation in a Global World and the website English Pronunciation, a resource supporting VU English pronunciation teaching.
